Facebook Users In The UK Get Safety App
Facebook has partnered with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) on a safety application for teenagers in the UK.
The application ClickCEOP will appear on a user’s profile page when they add or bookmark it, allowing teens to report suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
"By adding this application, Facebook users will have direct access to all the services that sit behind our ClickCEOP button which should provide reassurance to every parent with teenagers on the site," said Jim Gamble, Chief Executive of CEOP.
"We know from speaking to offenders that a visible deterrent could protect young people online."
CEOP’s Facebook page will feature polls, news alerts and status updates. The page will cover topics about celebrities, music and exams, it will link these subjects to questions about online safety.
The move by Facebook comes after the murder of a teenage girl in 2009 that was linked to the social networking site.
"There is no single silver bullet to making the Internet safer but by joining forces with CEOP we have developed a comprehensive solution which marries our expertise in technology with CEOP’s expertise in online safety," said Joanna Shields, Facebook’s Vice President for EMEA.
