Simple tips for customizing your blog or website

There are several rules of thumb to follow to ensure that your blog or website is always performing well.

Most blogs or websites have simple and straightforward navigation menus to allow visitor to navigate with ease. If you create complicating and flashy menus, you will only drive the visitor away.

A well constructed sitemap would be very useful particularly if your blog or website contains many web pages because your visitor can easily search for contents simply by looking at the ‘map’ of your site.

The sitemap literally summarizes the overall big picture of your contents and the visitors save a lot of time searching for what they are looking for just by perusing your sitemap.

Having a well constructed sitemap makes your site look neat and organized.

A good sitemap basically links all the web pages your site, which works well for search engine rankings. Your web page contents will then be easily indexed by the search engines to improve on their ranking.

If you are using squeeze pages for your opening page, avoid making use of very flash pages involving too much animation. The purpose of having landing pages is to gather database and you need to give value up front with good content based site to get subscribers to opt-in.

Good keyword-based content is the basis for creating your blog or website. People basically get online to search for information.

Generally, people do not like to be pushed to buy; if your information appeals to them, then the contents will have affiliate links to direct your visitors to your product or service.

The new wave of marketing is not just by e-books, but by video and audio tutorials. Video learning creates more impact on the buyer’s decision to make that purchase.

Your blog should be designed to generate maximum traffic flow and make more online sales. In addition to having good sitemap navigation, there are other important considerations like optimizing you images on your site to have minimum file sizes to ensure your site can load much quickly.

Most visitors lose attention and leave your site if it doesn’t load completely within 15 seconds.

Text paragraphs should be kept to a reasonable length to allow your visitors to easily read your contents.

Always make an effort to test each and every link on your blog or website before it gets online. Any broken links would only tarnish your business image, so be careful that these links do work. The worst possible scenario would be if your visitor was ready to buy, but your multiple payment option links do not work or wrongly channel the sales to someone else’s account! You stand to lose a lot.

Feedback from your visitors is the best source of information for re-designing your blog or website. Do not rock the boat if what is being uploaded in your site keeps bringing in the profits.  You can play it safe by putting a poll on your site to get feedback from your visitors. Give it a fresh look if they think it necessary to do so.
